Named after Norman K. Freeman, a 19th-century Bronx academic.
According to NYC Parks, Norman K. Freeman was a mid-19th-century Bronx academic, and a road was renamed Freeman Street after his death. NYC Parks says he was a visiting physician at St. John's College, now Fordham University, from 1845 to 1850; Forgotten New York says he taught there. In 1996 NYC Parks also named Freeman Triangle after him.
