Named after the plaza honouring the Union veterans of the Civil War.
The plaza at Prospect Park’s main entrance, designed by Frederick Law Olmsted and Calvert Vaux in 1867, was long called Prospect Park Plaza, as was this station. In 1926 it was renamed Grand Army Plaza, marking sixty years since the founding of the Grand Army of the Republic, a fraternal organisation of Union veterans of the American Civil War.
