‘Mosholu’ may be an Algonquin word meaning ‘smooth stones’ or ‘small stones’.
According to one account, the name was first applied to the nearby creek now known as Tibbetts Brook. Another etymology makes it a contraction of the name of the Choctaw chief Mushulatubbee. The parkway links Bronx Park with Van Cortlandt Park.
