Park Place was known as Baltic Street until the early 1870s.
According to the city’s Landmarks Preservation Commission, which cites 19th-century Brooklyn street directories, Park Place was known as Baltic Street until the early 1870s. Around 1854 the street had been extended east from Hoyt Street to New Lots, then Brooklyn’s city line. The commission’s report does not say why the name Park Place was chosen.
