Named after the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, two blocks away.
The state reserved land for the garden in 1897, and it opened in May 1911 on the site of an ash dump. The first station here, opened in 1902 by the Consumers Park Brewery, was called Consumers Park. It was renamed Botanic Garden at the end of 1919, and the present station took over the name when it replaced the old one in 1928.
