Named after Park Place, where King’s College, later Columbia, once stood.
King’s College, founded in 1754 by royal charter of King George II, moved in 1760 into its own building on land donated by Trinity Church at today’s Park Place. Renamed Columbia College in 1784, it sold the campus in 1857 and moved to Madison Avenue and East 49th Street.
