Named after John Chambers, an 18th-century lawyer and leading member of Trinity Church.
John Chambers (1710–1764) was a vestryman and later warden of Trinity Church. In 1751 he became a justice of the colony’s Supreme Court of Judicature; Archaeology Magazine also describes him as an alderman. He was married to Anna Van Cortlandt, and his nephew was John Jay.
