Franklin St

Tribeca, Manhattan

Named after Benjamin Franklin (1706–1790), the Revolutionary-era statesman.

The street had earlier names: a list of former New York street names records it as Provost Street in 1797 and as Sugar Loaf Street in 1807. According to Tribeca Citizen, Sugar Loaf Street was extended east to Broadway in 1816 and its name was then changed to Franklin Street, in honour of Benjamin Franklin.
