Prince's Bay

Staten Island

According to tradition, named after a prince who anchored in the bay.

The story goes that William of Orange, a Dutch prince who later became King William III of England, once anchored a vessel in the bay at the foot of today’s Seguine Avenue. A map of 1776 shows the name as Princess Bay, a form still often heard today. The station itself opened in 1860 under the name Lemon Creek.
