Queens Plaza was built where the Queensboro Bridge meets Queens Boulevard.
The plaza straddles the western end of Queens Boulevard in Long Island City and was built to connect the boulevard with the Queensboro Bridge; it was originally called Queensboro Bridge Plaza, or simply Bridge Plaza. The borough is presumed to be named after Catherine of Braganza (1638–1705), queen of England when the county was named, though the namesake is disputed.
