Named in 1835 after Saratoga, the upstate town of a Revolutionary War battle.
According to NYC Parks, Saratoga Avenue is one of a series of streets here named after New York State towns and cities; Saratoga was the scene of an important battle of the American Revolutionary War. The name itself is thought to be a Dutch adaptation of a word of Iroquois or Mohawk origin; suggested meanings include ‘vale of springs’ and ‘beaver place’.
