Rutland Road was Tulip Street until Brooklyn renamed it in 1897.
Rutland is a small county in England’s East Midlands. Forgotten New York thinks the change from Tulip Street was likely part of a trend of giving streets British names, around the time Avenues A and B further south became Albemarle and Beverley. Rutland Road runs from Flatbush Avenue and ends here at Sutter Avenue, whose namesake we have not found.
