Named after the Steinway piano makers, who built a company town in Astoria.
In 1870 Steinway & Sons built a piano factory and workers' housing in northern Astoria, and William Steinway (1835–1896), son of the firm's founder, developed the company town of Steinway Village there. Sources differ on the street: one says it is named after the company, another that Astoria's Main Street was renamed Steinway Street in William's honour.
