Named after Woodhaven Boulevard, which takes its name from the neighbourhood of Woodhaven.
John R. Pitkin named his workers’ village Woodville in 1835; when residents asked for a post office in 1853, they changed it to Woodhaven to avoid confusion with an upstate Woodville. The road, laid out in 1668 as South Meadow Road, was later Trotting Course Lane, after local racetracks, then Flushing Avenue and Woodhaven Avenue, and finally, once widened, Woodhaven Boulevard.
