Named after 104th Street in Richmond Hill, which old maps show as Wyckoff Avenue.
Until 1966 the station was called 102nd Street; it then took the double name 102nd–104th Streets, and today signs and the map give 104th Street. Lists drawn from old maps also call 104th Street Oxford Avenue, and give 102nd Street as Park Boulevard or Union Avenue, depending on the part of the neighbourhood.
