Named after 121st Street, which old maps of Richmond Hill show as Spruce Street.
Many village street grids in Queens had only worded names. In the early 1920s Queens adopted a ‘Philadelphia Plan’ to lay one numbered system over the whole borough, and under it old names such as Spruce Street eventually gave way to numbers.
