Billancourt

Boulogne-Billancourt

Named after the rue de Billancourt, after the old village of Billancourt.

Billancourt was an outlying hamlet of Auteuil. When Paris absorbed Auteuil, Billancourt, outside the city's fortifications, went to Boulogne as compensation for losing most of Longchamp to the Bois de Boulogne; sources date this to 1860 or 1859. The town took the name Boulogne-Billancourt in 1926; between the wars Billancourt became the historic home of the Renault works.
