Named after the pont de Sèvres, the bridge across the Seine to the town of Sèvres.
The first pont de Sèvres, made of wood, was built in 1684 on Louis XIV's orders to ease travel between Paris and Versailles. Napoleon I replaced it with a masonry bridge, begun in 1808 but finished only in 1820. Today's bridge, opened in 1963, links Boulogne-Billancourt with Sèvres, and has also given its name to a quarter of Boulogne-Billancourt.
