Bir-Hakeim

Paris 15e

Named after the pont de Bir-Hakeim, which commemorates the Battle of Bir Hakeim.

In 1942, Free French troops held out for two weeks at Bir Hakeim in the Libyan desert. The station opened in 1906 as Grenelle, after the boulevard, and was renamed on 18 June 1949, when the Passy bridge became the pont de Bir-Hakeim. Since 1998 its subtitle has been Tour Eiffel, as it is the closest metro station to the tower.
