Named after the Pleyel crossroads, after the Pleyel piano company.
The composer Ignace Pleyel (1757–1831) founded his piano firm in Paris in 1807. In 1865, long after his death, the company built a large factory on the boulevard Ornano in Saint-Denis; the crossroads is named after it. The factory has gone, but a nearby square is called Place des Pianos.
