Chardon-Lagache

Paris 16e

Named after the rue Chardon-Lagache, which honours a married couple of benefactors.

Pierre-Alfred Chardon (1807–1879), who had made his fortune as a merchant with his shop Aux Montagnes russes, and his wife, née Lagache (1811–1887), founded a retirement home in the street in 1857 for elderly people of modest means. It opened in 1865 and is now the hôpital Chardon-Lagache. The street, formerly the rue du Point-du-Jour, took their name in 1894–1896.
