Named after the rue and pont Mirabeau, which honour the Count of Mirabeau (1749–1791).
The rue Mirabeau, opened in 1862, was named by decree of 2 March 1867; the bridge, decided on in 1893, honours him too. Mirabeau, a writer, journalist and politician, was a great orator and one of the founding fathers of the Revolution. He was the first to be buried in the Panthéon, but was removed when his secret dealings with the monarchy came to light.
