Named after the Château de Vincennes, the royal castle near the station.
It began as a royal residence set up in the forest of Vincennes by Louis VII before 1178. Around 1337 Philippe VI decided to fortify the site with a keep, and Charles V, born in the fortress in 1338, made it his residence and the seat of his government.
