Named after the rue de Crimée, which commemorates the Crimean War.
In this war (1853–1856), France, Britain, the Ottoman Empire and Sardinia fought Russia, mainly in Crimea; it ended with the Treaty of Paris. In 1868 the rues de Bordeaux and de Marseille of the old commune of La Villette were merged into the street.
