Named after the rue Hoche in Pantin, which honours General Lazare Hoche (1768–1797).
The son of a groom in the king's hunt at Versailles, Hoche enlisted at 16 as a private in the Gardes françaises and became a general of the French Revolution. He led the pacification of the Vendée and Brittany, conceived an expedition to Ireland, and died of tuberculosis at Wetzlar aged 29.
