Hôtel de Ville

Paris 4e

Named after the Hôtel de Ville, the Paris city hall.

In July 1357 Étienne Marcel bought the Maison aux Piliers here on behalf of the city, and the municipal institutions have stood on this spot ever since. The communards set the building on fire on 24 May 1871; it was rebuilt between 1874 and 1882, with a facade closely modelled on the lost one. The station opened in 1900.
