Rambuteau

Paris 3e, 4e

Named after the rue Rambuteau, after Claude-Philibert de Rambuteau.

As prefect of the Seine from 1833 to 1848, he decided in 1834 to cut this street through the medieval centre; work began in 1839. The station is subtitled Centre Georges Pompidou, after the arts centre opened nearby in 1977. It opened in 1935.
