La Chapelle

Paris 10e, 18e

Named after the old village of La Chapelle, which grew up around an oratory of Saint Denis.

According to tradition, Saint Genevieve had the oratory built here, on the old road north. The village, also called La Chapelle-Saint-Denis, became part of Paris in 1860. The station, built where the La Chapelle tollgate of the Wall of the Farmers-General stood, opened in 1903.
