Named after the boulevard des Sablons, after the old plain of Les Sablons ('sands').
The plain had sand quarries that supplied building works in Paris. The station is subtitled Jardin d'Acclimatation, after the amusement park at the edge of the Bois de Boulogne. It opened in 1937.
