Named after the town hall of Aubervilliers, on the place de la Mairie above it.
Recorded in the mid-11th century as Albertivillare, the town's name joins the Germanic personal name Adalbertus to villare, a farm or village. The station's subtitle, Plaine des Vertus, is the market-garden plain near Paris whose cabbages gave the variety names Aubervilliers and Gros des Vertus. The church on the same square is Notre-Dame-des-Vertus.
