Named after the Pont Neuf ('new bridge'), in fact the oldest bridge in Paris still standing.
When it was finished in the early 17th century it was new indeed: the first bridge in Paris without houses on it and with pavements for pedestrians. The station is subtitled La Monnaie, after the old royal mint nearby. It opened in 1926.
