Porte de Champerret

Paris 17e

Named after the porte de Champerret, which recalls the hamlet of Champerret.

The hamlet grew up on the field (champ) of Jean-Jacques Perret's property, hence its name. Perret, a rich landowner, began dividing it into building plots in 1822. In 1867 Champerret, until then part of Neuilly-sur-Seine, was joined with the village of Levallois to form the new commune of Levallois-Perret. The square at the old gate was named in 1926.
