Named after the Porte de Clignancourt, after the hamlet of Clignancourt.
The hamlet belonged to the abbey of Saint-Denis. When the Thiers wall was built, the gate took its name. The station is subtitled Puces de Saint-Ouen, after the famous flea market nearby. It opened in 1908.
