Named after the rue des Pyrénées, which takes its name from the mountain range.
The Pyrenees form the natural border between France and Spain. The street was opened by a decree of 28 July 1862, taking in part of the rue de Puebla, and received its present name by an order of 1 February 1877. Plans show it did not yet exist in 1855 and was complete by 1878.
