Richard-Lenoir

Paris 11e

Named after the boulevard Richard-Lenoir, after the manufacturer François Richard.

Richard (1765–1839), a cloth manufacturer, added part of the name of his late partner Joseph Lenoir-Dufresne (1768–1806) to his own. Tired of waiting for permission, he once took over an abandoned convent on the rue de Charonne with his workers and set up their cotton mill there. The boulevard, named in 1875, covers part of the canal Saint-Martin.
