Aspern Nord

Donaustadt

Named after Aspern; the station lies at the northern edge of the Seestadt.

Aspern, a former village that joined Vienna in 1904/05, gave its name to the airfield built here in 1910/1911. After the airport closed in 1977, the city bought the remaining site in 1992 and is building the Seestadt Aspern, a new district around a lake. Two large murals by Stephan Huber in the station recall the Battle of Aspern (1809) and the airfield (1912).
