Augasse

Alsergrund

Named after Augasse, which recalls the Danube's floodplain meadows (‘Au’).

The lane was named in 1862 after the Danube meadowlands (‘Auen’) that once stretched out here. It runs along the top of the river's old bank, with the wide river landscape once lying to the east. From 1835 to 1862 it was called Spittelauer Weg.
