Named after the Börse, the building of the Vienna Stock Exchange.
Maria Theresa founded the Vienna Stock Exchange in 1771. Its building on the Schottenring, designed by Theophil Hansen and Carl Tietz, was opened by Emperor Franz Joseph I on 14 March 1877. Fire destroyed part of it in 1956; in 1998 the exchange itself moved out to other premises.
