Floridsdorf

Named after Floridsdorf, the ‘village of Floridus’, a provost of Klosterneuburg.

In 1786 a new settlement grew up on pasture belonging to Klosterneuburg Abbey. Provost Floridus Leeb (1731–1799) had handed the abbey's land to 26 settler families, and in return the place was named after him: first ‘Dorf des Floridus’ (village of Floridus), later Floridsdorf. Since 1904 Floridsdorf has been Vienna's 21st district.
