Friedensbrücke

Alsergrund

Named after the Friedensbrücke, the ‘Peace Bridge’ over the Donaukanal.

The bridge, built in 1924–1926 to replace the Brigittabrücke, was named after the peace treaty of Saint-Germain, signed in 1919 after the First World War. From 1941 to 1945 the Nazi regime called it Brigittenauer Brücke. Blown up in April 1945, it was rebuilt and reopened on 12 February 1946 – once again as the Friedensbrücke.
