Named after Roßauer Lände, the riverside landing of the old Roßau suburb.
A Lände is a landing place for boats. The Roßau, a former suburb now in the 9th district, is named after the pastures and watering places of the horses (Ross) that towed Danube ships upstream; a horse trough on the bank, the ‘Rossetrenke’, is recorded from 1377. From 1903 to 1919 the station was called Elisabethpromenade.
