Named after Hütteldorfer Straße, the road towards the former village of Hütteldorf.
The street was named to preserve the name of the former suburb of Hütteldorf. It was first called Hütteldorfer Straße in Rudolfsheim in 1878, in Penzing in 1881 and in Fünfhaus in 1892, and became a single street of that name in 1894. Before that it was the Breitenseer-Hütteldorfer Bezirksstraße. It was extended to the Gürtel (the ring road) in 1929.
