Named after Meidlinger Hauptstraße, the main street of the old village of Meidling.
The street is named after the former village of Meidling, which it runs through; before that it was simply ‘die Hauptstraße’, the main street. Meidling appears in records as ‘Murlingen’ around 1140 and as ‘Meverlingen’ in 1258. The name is explained as ‘among the people who live by the little wall’, from Middle High German můre, wall.
