Named after Neubaugasse, the street of the old suburb of Neubau.
The street was named in 1862 after the suburb of Neubau (‘new building’), now part of the 7th district. In 1550 more than 70 houses went up ‘auf dem Neubau’ along what was then called Lange Gasse, the long lane – today’s Neubaugasse. From 1770 it was known as Neubau Hauptstraße.
