Oberlaa

Favoriten

Named after Oberlaa (‘Upper Laa’), a former village in the 10th district.

Oberlaa and Unterlaa, downstream on the Liesing, once formed a single place called Laa (originally Lo, Loch or Lach), recorded in 1140 in the books of Klosterneuburg Abbey. Oberlaa is first named as such in 1324. The spa opened here in 1974, together with that year’s international garden show, made the name known all over Vienna.
