Named after Schweglerstraße, which honours a coffee-house owner who became mayor of Rudolfsheim.
The street was named in 1875 after Johann Schwegler (1820–1903). He came to Vienna from Bavaria in 1835 as a tavern boy, ran a busy inn and pushed hard for several villages to merge into the municipality of Rudolfsheim, created in 1863. He was its mayor for years – sources vary, most plausibly 1870–1878.
