Named after the Stadtpark, the city park laid out on the old glacis in 1862.
The open ground of the former Wasserglacis, which vanished when the Ringstraße zone was built, became a park in the English landscape style, to a sketch by the painter Joseph Selleny and plans by city garden director Rudolf Siebeck. It opened on 21 August 1862; mayor Andreas Zelinka championed it. The Kursalon followed in 1865–1867.
