Named after the Kupfergraben, the arm of the Spree along the Museum Island.
The Kupfergraben (‘copper ditch’) is the northern part of the Spree Canal. Its name probably comes from a foundry that stood here for centuries, where copper among other metals was cast. Until around 1700 the street was called Am Ludwigsgraben. The entrance to the Pergamonmuseum is here.
