Named after the Berlin university, today’s Humboldt-Universität.
The street was named in 1815 after the university founded in 1809 by King Frederick William III, which began teaching in 1810; since 1949 it has been called Humboldt-Universität. Before that the lane was the Stallgasse (stable lane). It links Georgenstraße with Unter den Linden, where the university has its main building.
