Named after Amrumer Straße, which honours the North Frisian island of Amrum.
The street was named in 1899 after Amrum, a German North Sea island south of Sylt and west of Föhr. The island’s name may come from ‘Am Rem’, meaning sandy edge, after the Kniepsand bank off its west coast; another theory links it to the Ambrones who once lived there. It was first recorded in 1231 as ‘Ambrum’.
